Land Use in the United StatesAmerica’s farmers and ranchers are conservationists. Not all land can be used to grow crops. Some has a slope that is too steep or too rocky, and some erodes too easily if tilled. Much of the land that cannot grow crops has a growing season that is too short or too irregular. If it is to be used to produce food it needs to be grazed by livestock. In fact, 50 percent of land in the world that is capable of producing food is suitable only for range and /or permanent pastures according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. This is also true of the land in the United Sates. Fifty percent of land in the U.S. is suitable only for range or best kept in permanent pasture. You must be logged in to leave a comment.
