Nebraska’s Livestock Cards Download or purchase a great resource that illustrates and describes the five major types of animals raised on farms in the United States. 8 1/2" x 11" color coordinated cards cover beef, dairy, swine, sheep and poultry and include a vocabulary card. The Livestock Cards may be purchased for $4 plus shipping and handling from the Nebraska Agriculture in the Classroom Web site.
Animal Care Book For young readers, the Kansas Farm Bureau has books and lessons about how farmers care about their animals. Lessons for PreK – 2nd grade can be downloaded here.

Ag Mags The Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom Ag Mags are four-page, colorful agricultural magazines for students with an approximate reading level of 2nd-4th grade. They contain information about agriculture, bright pictures, classroom activities, and agricultural careers. Among those available to download in 8 ½ by 11 inch formats are beef, dairy, pork, sheep and poultry.

Pork Take a virtual field trip by visiting the Wildman family from South Charleston in Clark County This family raises more than 16,000 piglets and sows each year. Our Ohio staff visited them recently and has created an audio slide show that is “A Day in the Life of the Wildman Family.”
Several other virtual field trips to hog farms are available on the Ohio Pork Tour Web site. Lessons, matched to ODE standards, with student activities complement the videos.
For Your InFARMation This is a free online resource for third grade students to learn where food comes from and the important role agriculture plays in Ohio’s economy. A downloadable teacher’s guide of lessons matched to ODE standards, ready-to-use student worksheets and an eight-page student guide are included.
