1 cup red wine (cabernet franc or syrah are good choices)
3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1 cinnamon stick
½ cup dried red cherries
Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and let cook for 7 to 10 minutes until reduced by half, the alcohol smell is gone, and the sauce is thickened.
Serve over vanilla ice cream or a baked apple.
Makes ½ cup.
