sauder villageHistoric Sauder Village is a living history museum where guests can experience daily life in Northwest Ohio’s Great Black Swamp from 1803 to 1920. The Village encompasses more than 40 buildings including historic homes and shops, nationally recognized Natives & Newcomers area, craft buildings, retail shops, a bakery, inn, campground and 350-seat restaurant. Throughout Sauder Village costumed guides share insights on 19th century rural life from sheep shearing and planting to harvesting and preserving. Depending on the day, events may include hymn singing, demonstrations of old printing techniques, samples of a 19th century recipe, oxen working or a craftsman making a broom or basket. Also at Sauder Village is Little Pioneers Homestead, a “please touch” area with hands-on activities, toys and games for children. Sauder Village is open April 28 through Oct. 25, 2009 Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Before Memorial Day and after Labor Day, village hours are 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tues.-Fri. Saturday and Sunday hours are as listed above.) Cost is $12.50 for adults, students 6 to 16 $6.50 and children under five are free with family. Discounts are available for seniors and AAA members. The restaurant, inn, bakery and retail shops are open year-round.
