pleased to feed youMeet the Vernon Family from Muskingum CountyStory by Lynn Snyder | Photos by Jodi Miller Our family: Pictured above, left to right, Bobbi, Brielle (7), Bryce (11) and Rob. A little one is due Jan. 13. Rob is an Adams Township trustee. Bobbi works part-time as a radiographer for Genesis Healthcare Systems. Why are you a Farm Bureau member? We believe in the value of agriculture to our society and that farms need to be supported. Farm history: We both came from farm backgrounds, yet we began farming on our own with the purchase of a 90-acre farm in 1990 and now own a little over 600 acres. We raise corn, soybeans, wheat and hay, 50 beef cows and nine horses. Why we farm: Farming is not what we do, it is who we are. There is something inside of us that just wouldn’t be happy doing anything else. Hardest chore: Square baling hay. Your motivation: Providing a stable life for our children in a rewarding environment, and seeing the fruits of our labor. Community involvement: Adamsville Progressive Council, PTO, 4-H, baseball coach, Farm Bureau Rowdy Ranchers Advisory Council. Achievements: 2001 Ohio Farm Bureau Outstanding Young Farm Couple. We also feel it is an achievement for us to have started farming from scratch and to have grown the operation into a successful business. Our county is known for? Take your pick — Y-Bridge, John Glenn, Zane Grey, Longaberger Baskets. Rob’s favorite is that the whitetail deer in this county have such large antlers! Our biggest challenge: Planting and harvesting in a timely fashion because of the numerous small fields and the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio. Our future: For now, we would expand if/when the opportunity presents itself. Future expansion of our operation will depend on if any of our children choose to join us in farming.
