An overview of Ohio Farm Bureau member savings on Nationwide products
by Lynn Snyder
Chances are you’re familiar with Nationwide and its “Life Comes at You Fast” advertising campaign. More than likely, you also are familiar with its slogan: “Nationwide is on your side.” But you may not know why Ohio Farm Bureau gives so much attention to Nationwide and its products.
The connection between Ohio Farm Bureau and Nationwide goes back more than 80 years. In 1926, Ohio Farm Bureau created its own insurance company and that company is now known as Nationwide. Ohio Farm Bureau members benefit from this affinity relationship by being part of a large group that leverages policies that ultimately produce lower rates. Savings can be significant on several types of insurance, including homeowners and auto, but members need to maintain their paid membership status to retain lower Farm Bureau rates.
“Nationwide truly values the Farm Bureau relationship that began in Ohio and now reaches to other state Farm Bureaus,” said Steve Fino, director, sponsor relations and Nationwide liaison with Ohio Farm Bureau. “Through policyholder meetings and frequent contact with Farm Bureau staff, we’ve been able to develop products and offer discounts that keep members’ money in their own pockets,” he said. The savings members receive on Nationwide products usually more than pays for the cost of a Farm Bureau membership, Fino said.
In addition to reduced premiums on homeowners and auto insurance, Nationwide also offers savings to Ohio Farm Bureau members on other coverages:
Motorcycle insurance: Several benefits exist, such as a discount on a motorcycle policy when your auto, home, condo or apartment is insured. Also, members can save up to 30 percent by insuring all of their autos, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles and boats.
Recreational Vehicles (RVs): Nationwide offers comprehensive, collision, towing and labor, gap coverage and rental reimbursement. Ohio Farm Bureau members receive a 10 percent discount on coverages for RVs, motor homes, fifth wheels, travel trailers, campers and pop-ups. Ohio Farm Bureau members also receive Nationwide discounts for safety course completion, safety accessories and RV coverage combined with other Nationwide policies.
Tenant insurance: Members receive a 10 percent discount.
Pet Insurance: Ohio Farm Bureau members can receive a 5 percent discounted premium from Veterinary Pet Insurance by calling 888-899-4VPI or visiting ourohio.org, then clicking on Member Benefits for access to the VPI link.
Long-term care insurance: Members receive a 5 percent premium discount through John Hancock Insurance. An additional 15 percent discount is applied for married applicants who apply alone or a 30 percent discount is offered if both married applicants are approved.
Accidental death and specific loss: Farm Bureau members automatically receive a limited accidental death and dismemberment insurance policy. The benefits increase for the first five years of uninterrupted service. Farm coverage: Members receive a 10 percent discount on policies for small to large farm operations, plus enhanced coverage available exclusively to Farm Bureau members.
Nationwide also offers other insurance and financial services such as personal umbrella liability policies, identity theft insurance, mutual funds, life insurance and annuities, and commercial insurance coverages. A Nationwide agent can provide details about these and other benefits. Quotes are also available online at www.nationwide.com/ofbf, or call 877-669-6877.
