
first tomato sandwich of the season
Serves one
2 slices of sandwich bread
1 fresh, ripe tomato still warm from the sun, sliced
Mayonnaise
Sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper
A few fresh basil leaves, optional
Spread one side of the bread slices with mayonnaise. Arrange the sliced tomatoes on top the mayonnaise. Season liberally with salt and pepper and arrange a few basil leaves, if desired, over the top of the tomatoes. Place the other slice of bread on top to make a sandwich.
Stand over the sink and eat the sandwich, letting the juice drip from your chin into the sink. Savor the moment!
